Christmas at the Castle
During Advent, the Johannisburg Castle is aglow with Christmas lights and the smell of hot, mulled wine is everywhere. At the Aschaffenburg Christmas Market you can enjoy traditional Christmas treats as well as local specialties.
At the castle square, you can’t miss the giant nutcracker and the two impressive Christmas pyramids. The manger scene is also a bit bigger in Aschaffenburg than elsewhere: life-sized wooden figures in traditional Franconian garb tell the Christmas story. The manger is also the location of several, regular Christmas programs. Children can enjoy a ride on the model train or the steam-powered Ferris wheel while adults stay warm sipping on “Äpplewoi” (apple wine). Furthermore, the Christmas program in Aschaffenburg includes theater productions, pipe organ concerts at the Stiftskirche, and events at the Stadthalle.
