Bonfire Conviviality

The Eichstätt Christmas Market takes place on the first three weekends of Advent on the cathedral square, next to the former Johannis Church. Enjoy tasty treats and arts and crafts in a convivial atmosphere.

The market booths on the cathedral square form a circle and in the middle is a cozy bonfire. Children make bread on a stick here while 100 adults sip on a variety of hot, mulled wines, warming themselves in front of Swedish log candles. Favorite local foods to keep you warm include Altmühltal lamb, hot soups, brats, etc. The Eichstätt Christmas Market is a great place to find unique and creative Christmas gifts. Other attractions include an ice skating rink and music performances, fairy tale readings, and swing dancing at the barn stage.

Eichstätt Christmas Tour

The tour’s name is “About the Christ Child and the Christmas Goose.” Visit festively illuminated places in town and hear about ancient Christmas customs as well as pagan rituals, such as the Celtic tradition of smoke nights.
